How Facile Technolab rebuilt a legacy ColdFusion quality control system on Angular, ASP.NET Core and Azure with no downtime and 100% of data migrated.
The client is LetterNine, a managed service provider (MSP) based in Cleveland, Ohio. It is a small team of 1–10 people, and it came to us on behalf of one of its end customers, a manufacturer.
That end customer ran its pharmaceutical product quality control on a web application built 12–13 years earlier. It was written in ColdFusion, DHTML and JavaScript on SQL Server, and it ran on an IIS server that was out of support.
The MSP needed a partner who could rebuild the system, convert its data and keep the process running throughout.
The legacy application supported a daily quality assurance process. It handled:
The goal was to rebuild this system on a modern, supported stack and move it to the cloud, without losing any history or interrupting the process.
The MSP found Facile Technolab through a referral. They chose us for our high ratings, pricing that fit their budget, and a great culture fit.
Replacing a system that people rely on is harder than building a new one. A few things shaped this project.
The application was 12–13 years old and ran on an IIS server that was out of support. Staying on it carried real risk for the end customer.
Quality control was in active use, so the move to the new system had to happen without downtime.
Lot-wise quality records needed to carry over in full, so the end customer could keep using its history and continue the same process.
The client supplied a specifications document, and the new system had to match what the business actually needed, with as little rework as possible.
Facile Technolab delivered the project end to end: development, testing and data conversion.
We rebuilt the system with Angular on the front end and ASP.NET Core on the backend, keeping the core capabilities: quality parameter inspection, lot-wise history, label printing for passed products, pass and fail reports by date range, and role-based access control.
The web application was hosted on Azure App Services, with Azure SQL for data and Azure Blob Storage for files.
All data was transformed to the new database design and loaded into the new system, so the end customer could see its historical data and keep using it for the same process.
Our senior QA tested the web application manually and used automated testing to check the data migration.
The modernization was delivered without any downtime, so the quality control process kept running.
We kept the work milestone-based and transparent, which suited a fixed-budget project.
Interpreted the client's specifications document and translated it into a working system.
Delivered in milestones against a fixed budget, with all enhancements on time.
Manual testing for the web application and automated testing for the data migration.
Responded to evolving needs through virtual meetings, email and messaging apps.
The new system was implemented successfully.
When asked what we could have done differently, the client could not think of anything.
The end customer now runs the same quality control process on a modern, supported platform in the cloud, with its full history still available.
The MSP delivered a successful replacement for an aging system without disrupting daily operations. The client is open to working with us on future opportunities.
Facile Technolab worked on a fixed budget with milestone-based delivery from February to August 2025. The client worked directly with our founder and lead architect.
If you have an aging application on an unsupported stack, we can help you plan a safe move to .NET and the cloud.
